Kalarasana goes to Chetpet

Rani Seethai Hall at the Gemini circle has been the venue for the December Music Season concerts for Kalarasana for years. This year, the sabha has moved to Chinmaya Heritage Centre on Harrington Road, Chetpet.

The Tapovan Hall at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre is acoustically good and spacious too. It is also good that music goes to the different parts of the city instead of hovering around the Mylapore area.

In the recent times, Sri Rama Bhaktha Jana Sabha which hosts its festival in K K Nagar and Nadasudha based in Velachery, Hamsavinodhini in West Mambalam have taken the festival to the other neighbourhoods in Chennai.

So, more the merrier?

Music Academy Season 2012 concert schedule

The Music Academy Madras, the mother of all the sabhas in Chennai has published the schedule of concerts and academic sessions on their website.
You can catch the veterans in the morning sessions, young singers in the noon sessions, popular young artistes in the session just after lunch and the well-known seniors in the two evening sessions.

Carnatica and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan host early season concerts

Two music festivals are hosted early in the season every year.
Bharat Sangeet Utsav hosted by Carnatica  and Bharatiya Sangeeth Utsav by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Identical names create curiosity.
Carnatica's Bharat Sangeet Utsav used to be hosted only in Chennai, but now travels to other towns and cities.
Bhavan's festival has a reason to be hosted in November. This much sought after venue in Mylapore later hostes the festivals of other sabhas. One among them is the long season by Kartik Fine Arts.
After the music festival, Bhavan's auditorium becomes the venue for a dance festival too.

Carnatica's festival begins on Nov. 2, 2012 and will go on till Nov. 11, 2011.
BVB's begins on Nov. 21, 2012 and will be on till Dec. 12, 2012. Check schedule here.
